'HOME OF THE ROSLYN ORGAN'
We are delighted to have the opportunity to present one of the worlds finest carved masterpieces made from Oak Timbers from shipwrecks and manor houses. The Oak Timber is 800 – 1000 years in age and weighs 40 tonnes. The carving is one of the rare works of art permitted to leave the United Kingdom.
Designed be L.F.Roslyn, and carved by Messrs Samuel Elliott and Sons of Caversham, Reading, it was housed in the Third Church of Christ Scientists, Curzon Street, Mayfair in the centre of London.
Upon demolition in 1980 it was brought to Australia by the Robinson Family. It then went to Junee where upon the assembling took approximately 5 months, as the only guide was a photograph.
The craftsmanship is on display and can be viewed in two separate sections.
The Abbey Function Centre where it is now housed, was opened for viewing on the 23rd May 1995 in Canberra.
